The Holt
Hampshire
The seventeenth-century house was backed into a steep, chaotic slope with random, small, flat areas.
By pulling the land back to form curving grass tiers that descend to a central zig zag spine, it has been possible to open the house to the south and east. A new ha-ha to the west connects with the valley pasture. The surplus spoil was used to create a 5 metre spiral mound with radiating avenues of yew, oak, beech and lime.
