South Kensington, London
for Imperial College,
2003 - 2010
Redesign of Princes Square for Imperial College alongside KPF Architects, who are rebuilding two sides of the Victorian square, demolished and partly rebuilt in the 1960s.
The proposal is for a simple layout of arcing paths within a grove of London plane trees. Foxgloves and cow parsley will grow wild in long grass. Ornamental tree and shrub planting has been cleared away and a central grass mound created to focus the space on a historic marble urn.
The original railings around the square will be restored from historic photographs with the assistance of English Heritage and the park will be protected from the road by a holly hedge.
