Heyford Park
Oxfordshire

Plans for a new town on the redundant Heyford Air Base working with Proctor and Matthews Architects. The huge scale of the plateau site and dramatic geometric pattern of runways, structures and bunkers set a frame for new settlement within a mosaic of native woodland, open water with reed beds, orchards and allotments, wood pasture, grazed limestone meadows and structures repurposed for recreation, employment and community.

The Air Base earthworks have also inspired a rampart landform with canals that create a cycle and walking route encircling the whole site. The earth rampart follows new perimeter woodland with key, tree-framed vistas out into the valley landscapes beyond. The plan connects into all the surrounding public rights of way, linking routes around and across the site. CGIs by Minmud.
