Maggie’s Swansea
Wales
Kisho Kurokawa designed the Maggie Centre for Swansea shortly before he died. Kim has created a swirling landscape to work with the cosmic building.
The approach from the hospital enters through a vegetable garden and the front door has chairs and tables for people to wait in the sunshine and prepare food. The meadow behind the building is protected by a curving dry stone wall full of ferns. Serpentine paths are cut through the wildflower meadow to create a more tranquil area for solitary contemplation. Terra Firma were the executive landscape architects and Ed Coveney made the dry stone wall.
